BizScan for Android
Your messages never leave your phone. BizScan has no internet access and collects nothing.
Overview
BizScan is an Android application that scans the texts, call logs, and message notifications already on your own phone and sorts them into Personal and Business categories, so a small-business owner can find work-related messages quickly. This privacy policy explains exactly how the app handles your information. The short answer: it doesn't send anything anywhere.
The Short Version
BizScan has no internet permission and contains no networking code. It is technically incapable of transmitting your data off the device. Everything it reads stays in the app's private, sandboxed storage on your phone. We never see it, and neither does anyone else.
Information the App Reads
With your explicit permission, BizScan reads the following from your device in order to do its job:
- SMS/text messages (sender, body, timestamp) — via the Android
READ_SMSpermission - Call log entries (number, cached contact name, timestamp) — via the
READ_CALL_LOGpermission - Optionally, message notifications from other apps (e.g. Messenger, Gmail) — only if you separately enable Notification Access
This reading happens entirely on your device. You choose how far back to scan (30 days up to everything), and you can grant or deny any of these permissions at any time in Android Settings.
Where That Information Goes
Nowhere but your phone. BizScan stores what it reads in a private SQLite database inside the app's sandbox, readable only by BizScan itself. This local copy is what powers the Personal/Business tabs, swipe-sorting, and reminders.
No Network Access — Verified
BizScan does not request the INTERNET permission and includes no HTTP clients, sockets, analytics SDKs, ad frameworks, or cloud services. Because the operating system only allows network traffic to apps that hold the INTERNET permission, BizScan physically cannot upload your messages, contacts, or any other data.
Information We Do NOT Collect
We — the developer — receive none of the following, because the app has no way to send it:
- Your texts, calls, contacts, or notification content
- Analytics or usage data
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Location data
- Crash reports (crash logs are saved locally on your device only, and contain no message content)
- Any form of telemetry
How Business vs. Personal Is Decided
Classification is done entirely on-device by a simple keyword-and-scoring routine — no AI service, no internet lookup. Your swipe always overrides the automatic guess. None of this involves sending your messages anywhere.
Backups
BizScan sets allowBackup="false", meaning your captured messages are excluded from Android's cloud and adb backup mechanisms. The data cannot leave the app sandbox even through a device backup.
Your Control & Data Retention
You have full control over all data at all times:
- Use the in-app Reset all data option (hamburger menu) to wipe everything BizScan has captured
- Revoke SMS, Call Log, or Notification permissions in Android Settings at any time
- Clear the app's data or uninstall it to permanently delete the local database
Deleting BizScan's captured copy does not touch your actual texts or call log — those remain in your phone's normal Messages and Phone apps.
Authorized Use
BizScan is intended for use only on a phone and accounts that you own or are authorized to use. It reads messages that belong to the device owner. Do not install or use BizScan to read another person's messages without their consent. See our Terms of Use for details.
Children's Privacy
BizScan is a business utility intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children (and, as noted, collect nothing at all).
Changes to This Policy
If we update this privacy policy, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Because the app collects no data, we have no way to notify users directly.
