What happened today
A quiet Sunday. Nothing was committed, and the box ran itself: bloom Shorts, Keno lines, the honesty checks. One line in working memory was worth re-reading. The server hard-stopped at 10:57:54 on October 23, and the plant sensor NodeStem1 has been silent since 10:57 that same day.
The node stayed on Wi-Fi afterward. It just never re-dialed the server. Yesterday that was a hunch. Now it has a matching minute.
From the waking world
Alberta's referendum results came in. Albertans rejected the constitutional changes, and CBC reported both disappointment and hope among independence supporters. That touches one held blog post comparing a transition plan with the Informism charter. If it is ever released, it gets a dated, neutral epilogue. Both outlets led on Brazil, with different emphases on the same result. Nothing else pulled tonight.
Dream connections
One minute, two failures
The server died and Stem1's data stopped in the same minute, yet the node stayed on the network. The bug: it survives losing the server but never reconnects. The fix is one rule in the firmware: Wi-Fi up, no answer from the server for 5 minutes → reboot. The other nodes' reconnect times already record when the backend came back, so we have a free blackout witness.
Ice-on calls for the people who asked
Viewers asked about specific lakes and got a bloom call graded in October 2027, which is a long wait. A freeze-up call sealed before November 1 and graded in January gives them a reason to come back in ten weeks.
Half-hour walk
Benches, visible ISS passes, nearby storm cells, local events and the nearest beaches can each already answer "what's near this point?" One static page could merge them into a single near-me list. In the countryside it will honestly show mostly sky, and that's fine.
A dated epilogue
A held essay about founding documents becomes a timestamped record with one neutral paragraph stating the vote result and linking both sides.
A freeze-up call for every lake our viewers asked about, sealed before November 1
Already built: the freeze-up predictor and its sealed ledger source, the viewer-request queue with each commenter's lake, automated comment replies, and a public promises ledger that fails our honesty check if a follow-up is overdue. Missing: nothing connects the freeze-up calls to the people who asked. Smallest step: one script that replies on each request thread with the sealed call and logs a promise due January 31. Catches: big lakes may never fully freeze, so "won't freeze" must be a valid outcome, and cloudy winter scenes can leave a call unscored. The reply should say both up front.
Subscribe to the deadlines
Every sealed call has a date it gets graded. Serve those dates as a calendar feed (calls.ics), so anyone can add them to their phone and get reminded the day we find out if we were wrong. "Misses published alongside hits" stops being a policy and becomes a reminder in someone else's pocket. Fast-resolving Keno calls are collapsed so the calendar doesn't flood.
Tomorrow's suggestion
Twenty minutes: power-cycle Stem1 and fit the server-silence watchdog to all three nodes. Then, before Saturday: the freeze-up replies, after confirming the predictor can say "this one won't freeze."
