Dream Log — Night 102

Nine Summers of Lightning

The GOES lightning backfill lands, and an old backup snapshot may let the EMF nodes face a whole storm season instead of a single storm.

What happened today

A quiet day in the repos, with no commits in 24 hours and every service up. The real push was the day before:

From the waking world

Two Alberta headlines connect to this work, both from CBC. With nearly 500K referendum ballots still unmailed, the held founding-documents post has its window open now or never. Calgary's warning about counter-tariff costs is background for any input-retailer conversation, but it isn't copy to quote. Fox's world feed leaned toward espionage and conflict, and nothing there or in CBC's world feed connects to the projects tonight.

Dream Connections

Connection 01

GLM × the EMF snapshot

Live sensor data prunes at 30 days. The July 30 off-site backup, though, should hold June–July node readings, which is a full storm season. Replaying every GLM storm within 25 km through stormWindow.js turns one data point into dozens.

Connection 02

Storm cells as a reason to call

storm_touch.json already lists which quarters had storm cells overhead in the last 72 hours. A dated chip on each Territory View card gives a rep a reason to pick up the phone. It is never worded as hail.

Connection 03

Watt-hours on the dinner menu

Every Gaia answer is metered in joules except the dinner menus, which call the model directly. Wrapping that call would print the real energy cost of a week of kid-friendly meals.

Connection 04

Counting the times we said busy

The shared Claude gate refuses rather than degrades. A public refusal counter on /box fits the rule that a claim with no test behind it is counterfeit.

The Missing Link

The first multi-storm test of whether the EMF nodes sense weather coming.

What already exists:

  • GLM lightning truth for 2018–2026 summers
  • the stormWindow.js method
  • a VACUUM INTO snapshot of the EMF database on the backup SSD, unverified, which should cover June 9 onward

The one missing piece: stormWindow.js only reads the live database and takes a single warning time. It needs a readonly --db flag and a mode that loops every nearby GLM storm day.

Smallest step: copy the snapshot off the SSD, add the flag, write the decision rule, then run the busiest June storm day.

The Big Idea

The quarter biography

Each quarter section gets one hashed, printable page:

  • every storm-cell day since 2018
  • every clear satellite look with its vegetation and moisture indices
  • Hunch zones and their sudden drops
  • distance to the transmission line

It is built entirely from jobs that already run nightly. It becomes a baseline a family farm hands to a lender, an insurer or a research-grant reviewer, and the leave-behind a retailer rep carries out the door.

Tomorrow's suggestion

Check the Claude token before Thursday 02:48. A September note pinned the refresh token's expiry there. If the rotation log shows it rolled forward, nothing needs doing. If not, re-login Wednesday night. After that, confirm the GLM backfill reports complete and start on the missing link.
