Setup (What You Need to Do)

Most of this takes about 15 minutes total.

1
Order the hardware — Flic Hub + one button per table (links above). Ships in a few days.
2
Plug in the Hub — find a central spot in the restaurant with a power outlet. Plug it in with the included USB cable. Connect it to your restaurant WiFi (there's a simple setup screen).
3
Get the app installed — Chris will help you install the Table Service app on your phone and connect it.
4
Pair the buttons — in the Flic app, hold each button to pair it. Name them "Table 1", "Table 2", etc. Set each one to send an HTTP request (Chris will give you the URL to paste in).
5
Place the buttons — stick them under table lips, on stands, or in a small holder on each table. They come with 3M adhesive.
6
Done! — When you open the app at the start of your shift, you'll see every request in real time. Tap the checkmark when you've served a table.
Day-to-day usage: Just open the app when you start your shift. Leave it running in the background. You'll get push notifications every time a button is pressed, even if your screen is off. At the end of the day, you can see a full log of every request and how long each one took to serve.

Common Questions

Do I need WiFi at the restaurant?

Yes — the Flic Hub connects to your WiFi to send alerts to the app. But the buttons themselves use Bluetooth to talk to the hub (no WiFi needed for the buttons).

What if my phone dies or I close the app?

Requests are stored on the server. When you re-open the app, you'll see everything that came in while you were away — nothing is lost.

Can multiple staff get notifications?

Yes! The app can be installed on multiple phones. Everyone on shift gets the alert and can see what's been served.

What if a customer presses the button a bunch of times?

Built-in 30-second cooldown. One press per table every 30 seconds max — no spam.

How much does it cost per month?

Nothing. No subscriptions, no fees. The hardware is a one-time purchase and the app is free.

How long do the button batteries last?

About 2 years of normal use. They use standard CR2032 coin batteries (~$2 to replace).
